Associate Professor Tsaltas Explains Heavy Periods
What causes heavy periods?
Heavy periods are one of the most common conditions that are referred to gynaecologists. They may exist due to many different causes such as:
• Fibroids
• Polyps
• Adenomyosis
Sometimes, however, there may be no cause found. This is known as ‘dysfunctional bleeding’.
What treatment options are available?
If you suffer from heavy periods, I can investigate, make a diagnosis and then recommend the least invasive way to deal with the problem.
Many treatment options are available and all should be explored. These include:
• Oral contraceptive pill
• The Mirena IUD
• Oral progestogens
• Hysterosocpic surgery
• Hysterectomy
